A transplant from New York City (NYC) to St. Louis in 2012, Rev. Taylor brings a diverse background and experience to benefit Emerson and the St. Louis community. A community minister affiliated with Emerson UU Chapel and director of the Unitarian Universalist House of Studies at Eden Theological Seminary in St. Louis, Julie is an experienced minister and religious educator.
Julie is a second-generation Congregationalist minister, originally ordained by the Westminster Congregational Church, of Salem, Ore., in August 2001. Since 2001, Rev. Taylor's ministry has focused mainly on disaster- and crisis-response. Julie has worked with Disaster Chaplaincy Services in New York City starting in 2002, serving as a volunteer chaplain, leadership team member, executive director, and currently as their consultant for training and deployment. Since 2007, Julie has been a responder and board member of the Unitarian Universalist Trauma Response Ministry.
It was through Disaster Chaplaincy Services that Julie met a Unitarian Universalist minister and was introduced to our faith. In 2010, Julie was ordained as a Unitarian Universalist minister by the Fourth Universalist Society, in NYC. For the Society, Julie served as Youth Minister (2010-2012) and Interim Director of Religious Exploration (2011-2012).
Julie graduated from New School University with a Bachelor of Arts degree with honors followed by a Master of Divinity from Union Theological Seminary, all in NYC.
Julie's family life centers on wife, Laurel, and their son, born in 2012. In any rare spare time, Julie enjoys traveling, reading, spending time with friends and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals.
Note: Rev. Taylor is available to serve in this role only until Emerson's search for a director of religious education to serve on a regular basis is successful or until July 1, 2014, whichever comes first.
