Rev. Krista Taves, notes, "I will be on sabbatical from January through March, returning to the pulpit on April 1st. Our Unitarian Universalist tradition has a great sensitivity regarding the demands on spiritual leaders and has long understood that in order for us to the be leaders you need us to be, we need intentional times of rest and renewal."
She will return to Emerson¡¯s pulpit on April 1st, just in time for our Annual Stewardship Campaign. Of course, there is much to plan to ensure that things continue smoothly here at the Chapel. We have a strong pastoral care team that will be the first line of response to all the pastoral care needs of the Chapel. We are arranging for a local Unitarian Universalist minister to be on call for pastoral care emergencies. She has promised our leaders that she will do everything she can to be available in the event of a life or death situation, but if she can¡¯t get back right away, we will have someone who can be there at a moment's notice.
Our Unitarian Universalist tradition has a great sensitivity regarding the demands on spiritual leaders and has long understood that in order for professional religious leaders to the be leaders we need them to be, they need intentional times of rest and renewal. Rev. Taves notes, "I am in my seventh year as your settled ministry and we have accomplished so much. It is time for me to enter into a period of reflection so that I may think deeply on my work with you and discern how I shall best serve you in the years to come."
Krista's ministry extends beyond the walls of Emerson. She is currently serving on the board of Faith Aloud: A Religious and Ethical Voice for Reproductive Justice (formerly known as the Missouri Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice).
Krista and her life partner Laur enjoy the outdoors, their home (which is always in a renovation of some kind!), good food and company, week-end getaways, and vacationing in their RV.
Please read Rev. Taves past sermons delivered by Rev. Taves at Emerson, in particular, you may wish to learn more about Unitarian Universlist Theology through a series of sermons Rev. Taves delivered at Emerson Chapel during early 2009. Please join us as Rev. Taves returns from sabbatical April 2012!
