At Emerson Unitarian Universalist Chapel, we welcome all who choose to walk with us in the spirit of love and fellowship, and in the search for truth and meaning. As a vibrant and growing church, Emerson Unitarian Universalist Chapel has been providing a spiritual community of tolerance and liberal religion in west St. Louis County since 1984. We celebrate our diversity and rejoice in our similarities. Together we create our traditions and combine the strands of all our lives to form the life and energy of our spiritual home. (Want to learn more about Emerson? A brief history is presented here.)
Would you like to learn more about the theological meaning of "Unitarian Universalism"? Rev. Taves presented six sermons on UU Theology in 2009: UU Theology I: The Foundation, UU Theology II: Ecclesiology, UU Theology III: Eschatology, UU Theology IV: Soteriology, UU Theology V: Missiology, and UU Theology VI: Pneumatology. Or download all six in one PDF file for your continued reading pleasure.
It means fulfilling the mission and ministry of the Chapel with our gifts of participation, service, fellowship, and financial support. It means taking personal responsibility for one’s own spiritual life. We are not bound by a specific doctrine or creed, and we do not attempt to answer your life questions for you. Instead, each community covenants to support the spiritual growth of its members and friends according to their individual needs and life experiences. Emerson Chapel is a member of both the Central Midwest District (www.cmwd-uua.org) and the Unitarian Universalist Association (www.uua.org). The CMwD and the UUA are associations of freely associated member congregations
We come from a great variety of rich, religious backgrounds, and have found truth and meaning in many diverse places. Thus, we place great importance on our individual beliefs without insisting that we all necessarily agree. In our diversity, we have much to learn from one another and we need not assume that revelation is sealed. Rather, as we strive to be aware and responsible individuals of faith, religious truth continues to unfold before us and through us.
